The Arminian dung-cart

The Arminian Cart of Filth. Satirical print on the Arminians from 1618. The image shows how the main representatives of the Remonstrants and some other reformers are being carted away. The cart is drawn by two wild horses named 'Disunity' who both want to go in different directions. In the cart sit Johannes Wtenbogaert (on the box), Jacobus Arminius, Petrus Bertius, Conradus Vorstius, Jacobus Taurinus, David Joris, Adolphus Venator, Dirck Volkertsz Coornhert and the 'Apostate Anabaptist'. In front of the cart stand two Jesuits. On the right in the foreground, two Arminians try in vain to get a Contra-Remonstrant preacher into the cart. The man on the left with a burning torch points the way for the cart and represents Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. With the French title and inscriptions but without the texts and the legend.
