About this work
The executions of Reinier van Oldenbarnevelt, David Coorenwinder and Adriaan van Dijk, 29 March 1623, on the scaffold at the Groene Zoodje in The Hague. With a large crowd of spectators. In the foreground right, the three main defendants depicted standing before the Gevangenpoort in the strange clothing in which they were taken prisoner. Below the main scene, small scenes of the removal of the body and clothes of Reinier van Oldenbarnevelt, the quartering of the bodies, the smashing of the pistols and a blank space. Also included are four portraits. A text sheet with four columns in Dutch is pasted below the plate.
