About this work

The arrival of the Protestant William III to England, leading an invading army, put an end to the rule of the Catholic king James II. Dressed as a Roman commander, William III presents a sealed Bible to the English Maid. She lies alone in bed, abandoned by her lord and master – the fugitive James II.
