About this work

Portrait of Archduke Charles of Austria as King Charles III of Spain, bareheaded in armor on horseback, 1706. Charles is crowned with the Spanish crown, Fame blows her trumpet in the clouds. To the right, a military tent with pages holding a coat of arms with the ruler's monogram, a helmet, and banners. To the left, the bombardment of Alcantara in 1706 by the Allied (Portuguese) army under António Luís de Sousa, 2nd Marquis of Minas, and Henri de Massue, Earl of Galway.
