About this work

The first sleigh in the procession. A Frisian sleigh with a stable master preceded by two riders in armor with torches. Part of a series of twelve plates (etching before the number and on different paper) of the sleigh procession on 24 January 1776 organized by the Leiden society Veniam Pro Laude on the occasion of the Second Centenary of the Liberation of Leiden (3 October 1574) and the founding of the University of Leiden (8 February 1575).
