About this work

The first sleigh in the procession. A Frisian sleigh with a groom in front, preceded by two riders in armor with torches. Part of a series of twelve plates (before the number and on different paper) of the sleigh ride on January 24, 1776, organized by the Leiden society Veniam Pro Laude on the occasion of the Second Centenary of the Liberation of Leiden (October 3, 1574) and the founding of the University of Leiden (February 8, 1575).
