About this work

An onyx with the portrait of a Roman triumphal chariot on which a laurelled man sits with a woman and child. Two centaurs walk in front of the chariot; in the sky, an angel flies with a laurel wreath. Around the onyx, a decorated frame. The plate of the jewel has been cut out and pasted within a print of a frame of an even larger ornament of jewels, rubies, cameos, etc. The onyx was to be sold on 11 September 1765 at the Mint in Amsterdam. The print is accompanied by a sheet with description.
