About this work
Allegory on the restoration of Stadtholder Willem V in 1787. The prince ascends the steps of the Temple of Liberty and receives the staff of command from the hands of Justice under the protection of the Prussian eagle. The Commonwealth sits on her throne next to the Dutch Lion, to the right Liberty, Commerce and Concord. In the foreground lies the defeated Discord among the weapons and hats of a patriot. Below the representation a verse in two columns in Dutch and a three-line description in French.
