About this work
King Philip V of Spain, seated on a throne, is laureled by Victoria, goddess of victory. Before the throne kneels an African woman with an elephant's trunk on her head and a map of the city of Oran in Algeria in her hand. She symbolizes the Spanish conquest of Oran in 1732. The Church, with a papal tiara on its head, offers the king a chalice. Through the arched window in the background, a fleet is visible before a coast. In the foreground, putti display a cloth with a text in Latin.
