About this work
Allegorical monument to Hendrik Danielsz. Hooft, former burgomaster of Amsterdam, who died on 31 August 1794. Monument in a landscape with trees and a meadow with a church in the background to the right. A kneeling patriot, a weeping Amsterdam city maiden, and a standing Hercules are near the monument. An eight-line verse on the monument and a three-line caption on the death and burial.
