About this work

The Destruction of the Old Constitution, allegorical decoration erected on the Botermarkt in Amsterdam during the Alliance Festival on 19 June 1795. Decoration in the form of the ruin of a Gothic chapel, on the central cartouche Envy turns the wheel of aristocracy which sets a millstone in motion. Part of a series of ten plates.
