About this work

Allegory on Liberty, 1795. Batavian Liberty emerges from an open temple to welcome the French troops arriving over the ice. Portraits of distinguished Patriots hang from the temple columns. The seat of the National Convention is empty. On the right, the pillar with a knight, designated as 'Old Constitution Nobility', is struck by lightning and falls. Slavery, Pride, Avarice and Deceit flee. The print is accompanied by an explanation.
