Allegory on the Peace of Amiens, 1802

Allegory on the peace concluded at Amiens on 27 March 1802, between the Batavian Republic and France and Great Britain. In the center Napoleon as Mars who empties a cornucopia into the lap of the Dutch Maiden. Behind the maiden a palm tree and putti with trumpets, one with the inscription 'Peace in Europe'. Behind Mars war equipment is destroyed by lightning. On the left four figures in Roman clothing take an oath above a burning altar, above them in the clouds putti empty a horn with flowers. In the background a triumphal procession and four ships with the French, Dutch, British and Spanish flags.
