About this work
Satirical print on the feared abolition of the University of Utrecht, 1853. A group of officials from the Ministry of the Interior attempts to pull down the building of the University of Utrecht with ropes. On the roof of the building, two professors (including G.J. Mulder) try to fend off the attacks. On the left, fleeing students and professors. On the right, a long procession of bishops marches towards Utrecht. In the center foreground, a black beetle, a reference to Thorbecke, Minister of the Interior. Below the print, three two-line quotations from Vondel.
