About this work

The pane belongs to a cycle donated in 1560 on the occasion of the centenary celebration of the University of Basel to the new library at Rheinsprung and executed by Ludwig Ringler and Hans Jörg Riecher. The central panel shows the rectoral seal in use since 1460, depicting the Right Hand of God with an open book.
