About this work

The pane belongs to a cycle donated in 1560 on the occasion of the centenary celebration of the University of Basel to the new library at Rheinsprung and executed by Ludwig Ringler and Hans Jörg Riecher. Donors besides the university itself (Inv. G 7) were the four faculties (Inv. G 8–10). The pane of the jurists, for which the Basel stained-glass painter Balthasar Han received payment in 1560, is preserved only as a drawing, also by the hand of Ringler (Basel, Cabinet of Prints, Inv. U.
