Pitcher

Raised, chased and repousse baluster-shaped pitcher on a domed and flared, circular pedestal base, engraved on front in several fonts "To / HUGH VERNON WASHINGTON / from HIS SISTER / E.C.W. / Feb'y 22"1882" inside a trefoil-shaped, ruffled C-scroll and floral reserve. Deeply curved, single-beaded rim with narrow V-shaped pouring lip. Matching floral decoration on top of base and face of the hollow, S-curve handle with chased acanthus sprig and lower bud terminal. Underside of rounded bottom is struck to right of centerpunch with a vertically-oriented mark of "T / E / & / C\o" over an empty circle and diamond or lozenge containing "1 / 5 7 / 8".
