About this work
Bell-shaped porcelain cup and saucer, painted on the glaze in black and gold. On the flat of the saucer the coat of arms of the De Marre family. On the coat of arms an hourglass is depicted, with on the left side the wing of a bird and on the right side a bat wing. The crest consists of the same image. The mantling consists of leaf scrolls and a row of pearls. On the rim an acanthus ornament derived from prints of the Dutch botanist Maria Sybille Merian (1646-1717). The cup with the same decoration with on the bottom an orchid. Coat of arms porcelain in encre de Chine.
