About this work
Bell-shaped cup of porcelain, painted on the glaze in black and gold. On the base an orchid. On the wall the coat of arms of the De Marre family. On the coat of arms an hourglass is depicted, with on the left side the wing of a bird and on the right side a bat wing. The crest consists of the same image. The mantling consists of leaf vines and a row of pearls. On the rim an acanthus ornament derived from prints by the Dutch botanist Maria Sybille Merian (1646-1717).
