About this work

Small, round box with a domed lid. The lid and sides decorated in high relief. On the lid: a curious depiction of three trees surrounded by a fence; on the sides: a landscape with houses without figures; on the bottom: a flower in low relief. On the inside of the lid: a faint remnant of a Chinese character in Chinese ink. The tiles have a fine serrated edge and are engraved with various narrow decorative bands. In the center on the front: a Chinese man at a tree. All tiles (12?) except one are glued in the box. This box was probably part of a larger game box.
