About this work

Ivory box with lid; on lid double portrait of two men behind each other (Cornelis and Johan de Witt), busts to the right in profile, in a circle, surrounded by carved decoration (wavy); lid slightly rising. Box on the outside with 'braided work' carved (also bottom); overall reminiscent of a needlework basket (also regarding shape). Inside smooth. Inscription; on lid: 'DE HEr CORN EN JOH DE WIT'.
