About this work

This is the first scene in the Romance of the Western Chamber (Xixiang ji). Zhangsheng stands on the verge of meeting Yingying in the monastery, the love of his life. He is accompanied by his servant, and the girl arriving at the door plays the leading role in the story, namely the maidservant Hongniang who brings the lovers together.
