Egg-shaped lidded jar of porcelain with a ribbed body, painted in underglaze blue. On the body a broad ribbed band with four recessed medallions containing scenes: two women (long-legged) on a terrace at a table playing 'go'; two women, one with a flowerpot, and a boy (zotje) in an interior with a qin on a table; two women on a terrace, one standing with a fan, the other sitting at a table with a book; two women on a terrace, one dancing, the other watching while sitting next to a table with a book. On the shoulder a band with branches of flowers (prunus, peony). Around the foot a band with flowering plants (paulownia, orchid, peony, peach, prunus, gladiolus). Marked on the underside with the six-character Chenghua reign mark in a double circle. Glue residues on the underside. Blue and white.
