About this work

Egg-shaped lidded pot of porcelain with ribbed wall and flat lid, painted in underglaze blue. In the ribbed wall four medallions are cut out with here a woman (long dress) in an enclosed garden before a pavilion with trees and rocks; around the foot and the shoulder a band with flower branches (carnation, peony, camellia); the rim of the lid with fruit branches (peach), the top with three playing boys (clowns) in an enclosed garden. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. Blue and white.
