Ovoid covered jar with flower sprays and narrative scenes in medallions

Egg-shaped lidded pot of porcelain with a ribbed wall, painted in underglaze blue. On the wall a wide, ribbed band with therein cut out four medallions with scenes: two women (long-lipped) on a terrace at a table playing 'go'; two women, one with a flower pot, and a boy (fool) in an interior with a qin on a table; two women on a terrace, one standing with a fan, the other sitting at a table on which a book lies; two women on a terrace, one dancing, the other watching sitting next to a table on which a book lies. On the shoulder a band with flower branches (prunus, peony). Around the foot a band with flowering plants (paulownia, orchid, peony, peach, prunus, dianthus). On the lid a scene of three men on a terrace with a servant offering one of them a bowl. On the rim flower branches. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. Glue residues on the underside. Blue-and-white.
