About this work

Bell-shaped porcelain bowl with flaring wall, painted in underglaze blue. On the outside a continuous scene of persons in a river landscape with rocks and trees, four scholars at a table next to a servant, two scholars in conversation, a scholar playing a musical instrument next to a listening servant; on the bottom a river landscape with rocks and trees and a figure with a walking stick; the rim with a decorative band with scrollwork and symbols of good fortune (umbrella, baldachin, two fish, endless knot), treasures (pearl), antiquity (vase), lotus and peach. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Kangxi in a double circle. Chip in the rim. Blue and white.
