About this work

Bowl of porcelain with modelled flower-petal shaped compartments in the wall and scalloped rim, painted in underglaze blue. Around the foot a band with flower-petal shaped compartments in which stylised lotus flowers, above that alternately wide compartments with four playing boys (clowns) and narrow compartments with a seated woman (long-limbed); on the base a seated woman with a closed fan; the inner rim with a decorative band. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. A crack in the wall. Blue and white.
