About this work

Octagonal bowl of porcelain with indented corners, painted in underglaze blue. On the outer wall eight compartments with in each a woman (long-limbed) in an enclosed garden or on a terrace, sometimes with a ruyi sceptre or fan in her hand. On the base two playing boys (clowns) with a ball in a landscape. The inner rim with a decorative band. Marked with the six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. Blue and white.
