About this work
A man and a woman throw stones behind them with their faces covered, which turn into men and women. They are Deucalion and Pyrrha, the only man and woman to survive the great flood sent by the gods. From an oracle (visible in the middle of the background), they received the advice to 'throw the bones of the great mother behind them'. To the left on the mountain behind the oracle, the ark is visible in which Deucalion and Pyrrha survived the flood. Below the image, two pairs of Latin verses. The print is part of an album.
