About this work

Woman in blue redingote. According to the accompanying text, the woman wears a man's coat: a redingote with three shoulder collars. The coat is of blue taffeta, with two mother-of-pearl buttons at hip height. Three mother-of-pearl buttons on the cuff of the sleeves 'à la Marinère'. Under the redingote a vest in the shape of a man's vest and a pink skirt. Around the neck a wide fichu. On the head a black straw hat with wide brim, white ribbon and three white feathers. Hairstyle with large curls. Open fan in hand. Heeled shoes. The print is part of the 19th Cahier from Cabinet des Modes ou les Modes Nouvelles. The series consists of 72 fashion prints, published by Buisson, Paris, 15 November 1785 – 1 November 1786.
