About this work

Man in half mourning. According to the accompanying text, the man is dressed in a gray coat ('habit') with black velvet collar. Underneath he wears a striped vest of taffeta and breeches with round buckles at the hem. Ruffled jabot (??) and cuffs. Hat à l'Androsmane with button and lis, tail wrapped in black fabric, breloques, shoes with round ?? buckles. Hairstyle ? The print is part of the 20th Cahier from the series Cabinet des Modes ou les Modes Nouvelles. The series consists of 72 fashion prints, published by Buisson, Paris, 15 November 1785 – 1 November 1786.
