About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, taking a musket (a specific type of firearm) from his left shoulder with his right hand (no. 2), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the butt of the musket, a burning match. Plate 2 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
