About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with both hands in front of him, the barrel pointing upwards, to bring it to his left side (no. 21), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the barrel of the musket, a fork (musket fork) and a burning match. Plate 21 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, soo veel aengaet het recht ghebruyck vant Musquet. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
