About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand near his left thigh and bringing his right hand to the end of his ramrod, which he rests against his right side (no. 29), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, a match; on his left wrist a fork (musket fork). Plate 29 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, soo veel aengaet het recht ghebruyck vant Musquet. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
