About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, taking a musket (a specific type of firearm) from his left shoulder with his right hand (no. 35), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the butt of the musket, a fork (musket fork) and a burning match. This is the same position as the one shown on the third print of the series. Plate 35 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, soo veel aengaet het recht ghebruyck vant Musquet.
