About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a caliver (a type of firearm) with his left hand (no. 9), ca. 1600. He brings the caliver to his mouth to blow the match, covering the pan with two fingers to protect against sparks. Plate 9 in the instructions for handling the caliver: Shorte instruction upon the contrefaictinges, touching the right use of calivers.
