About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, closing the pan (the powder reservoir) of his musket (a specific type of firearm) with his right hand (no. 17), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, he holds a lit match. Plate 17 in the instructions for handling the musket: Brief enseignement, sur la representation des figures, du droit maniement de l'Harquebuse.
