About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, closing the pan (the powder reservoir) of his musket (a specific type of firearm) with his right hand (no. 17), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, a burning match. Plate 17 from the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
