About this work

Monument commemorating the folly of the year 1720. On a large cart driven by a jester, Fortune scatters shares from the Actien. The cart is pulled by personifications of the South Sea and Mississippi companies, among others. The cart is led by Fame toward the poorhouse and madhouse. Around the cart, traders and victims. Right background: the coffee house Quincampoix. Bottom: the emblem with the motto "Schijn Bedriegt" (Appearance Deceives) in Latin. In the caption, the explanation of the image in French and Dutch. Print in the bound fourth edition (304 B 12) of *Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid* with satirical prints on the Wind Trade or Share Trade of 1720.
