About this work

Ivory mount with mother-of-pearl disc at the locking pin; 22 connected ribs, depicting a symmetrical scene with five cartouches alternating with houses in a landscape and a man and woman. Leaf of Valenciennes bobbin lace, with flowers and vines. Palm motifs along the three edges, interrupted by tulips; along the scalloped top edge, rosette-shaped flowers and fern leaves. The leaf was probably added later to the mount.
