About this work
Linen damask napkin with David and Abigail. Central field: the symmetrical pattern shows one scene: Abigail, kneeling between filled baskets, crockery and bushes, one hand on her heart, with the other pointing to the contents of a basket; and looking up at David, who is crowned and spurred, riding forward as a leader with raised hand, accompanied by cavalry (with helmets on and spears and flags in hand) which closes the scene from above. Side borders: symmetrical pointed-arch vines filled with birds and flowers. Surrounded by a block border. Hem: double open hem.
