About this work

Walnut writing cabinet, divided into lower and upper sections. The lower section has Tuscan columns on the corner stiles and a half Tuscan column on the central stile, whose shafts are painted with leafy vines. The two doors feature, in low relief, representations of river gods and goddesses, surrounded by various animals. In the frieze above the doors are two drawers. The writing surface depicts Mars and Venus, surrounded by cupids. Inside, eighteen drawers around an arched niche, with silver-decorated plates.
