Napkin with the four virtues

Linen damask napkin with the four virtues. Central field: the asymmetrical pattern shows five scenes from bottom to top: 1 Faith, represented by a standing female figure turned to the left, holding a cross in one hand and showing a chalice in a halo of rays in the other. Inscription: GLAUBE. 2 Patience, represented by a seated woman shearing a sheep. Inscription: GEDULT. 3 Hope, represented by a standing woman holding her arms at her sides with an anchor in one hand and a nimbus (?) in the other. To her left, a ship sails, on whose sail a cross. Inscription: HOFFNUNG. 4 Love, as a seated woman, on whom a child with a flower approaches from the right. To the right, a pine tree in a pot. Inscription: LIEBE. 5. Beginning of a repeat of scene 1. Standing borders ± running vine, with varied peony-like flowers + outside: block border.
