About this work

Linen damask napkin with landscape, male figures, and dogs. Central field: the asymmetrical pattern is repeated both vertically and horizontally and consists of three scenes: 1 A man with raised sword against a spotted dog. 2 To the right of a balustrade stands a man dressed in justaucorps and a high, not very long wig, holding a basket of fruit. To his left, a dog looking up and raising its paws towards a boy. 3 On a rock rising from a lake stand three chapels with domed roofs and crosses; in the foreground, two swans swim. Standing and lying borders, separated from the central field by lines: inward-facing manned sailing ships, separated by rocks on which trees grow; outside this, a narrow block border. Corners: a diagonally placed sailing ship.
