Strip of bobbin lace with obliquely placed bands of linked cartouches

Strip of natural-colored Brussels bobbin lace. The symmetrical pattern consists of diagonally placed bands of several linked cartouches. Two of these bands with rocaille-like cartouches form a V-shape in the center of the strip. Parallel to this three false cartouches form a diagonal band with at the end a bunch of forget-me-nots and at the bottom a bunch with double calyx flowers. The pattern along the bottom edge is further formed by a linking of ovals, rosette flowers and four cartouches. This pattern continues in the short sides. The motifs are largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges and some cutouts, they are partly in net stitch. Many motifs are provided with cutwork relief contours. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a droschel ground. Various decorative grounds are applied, especially in the cartouches, including a picoted plaited ground and a coarser hexagonal trellis ground. The top edge is finished with a separate cutwork band.
