About this work

Purse of green velvet with a base of silver brocade on which a cardinal's coat of arms is embroidered in relief with gold thread and colored silk. Model: flat round base with a wavy raised rim around it provided with holes through which a cord of green and silver braided silk is drawn - ending in a knob with wooden core wrapped with metal thread and an open knitting of metal thread - is drawn. On two sides on the outside knobs - just like those on the cord - are attached. Lined with goatskin. Decoration: the 20 protrusions or 'ribs' are decorated with stacked ornaments consisting of lobed drops, wings and three-leaf. Just below the holes runs a horizontal line of silver thread. Along the top the whole is edged with a passement of silver thread (mostly worn). The base is circled with a double border within which a zigzag line of silver thread.
