About this work
Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Alençon lace. Scatter motif with a well-defined symmetrical pattern of larger and smaller winged insects and five-petaled rosettes. The scatter motif is set on a fine hexagonal mesh ground. The pattern at the lower edge of the strip consists of a continuous rose branch over which a conch shell is placed. Various decorative grounds in the wings of the insects, the rose leaves, and the shells. The lower side is finished with a straight edge of festooned picots. The upper side is edged with a bobbin lace border.
