About this work
Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Alençon lace. Pattern with a repeating motif of medallions on a fine hexagonal mesh ground, scattered at the top with knots. In the medallions, alternately a tulip and a rose branch. The outer edge of the medallions consists of various flowers and leaves that become larger towards the bottom. On either side of the largest flower at the bottom, an acanthus leaf. Various decorative grounds in the diamond-shaped spaces between the acanthus leaves and in a single flower. Along the bottom edge, flowers and leaves forming shells. The top edge is edged with a border of bobbin lace.
