Strip of bobbin lace with obliquely placed quadruple cartouche and berry branch

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Lille lace. The repeating pattern consists of a diagonally placed oval cartouche, a smaller triangular cartouche and a curved branch with berries. These motifs all spring from the underside of the strip. In the diagonally placed cartouche stands a smaller oval cartouche and it is crowned by a more or less triangular cartouche and on that again a smaller oval cartouche. Two different loose berries stand diagonally above the berry branch. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a tulle ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with thicker and shiny contour threads. In the cartouches and the berries various decorative grounds are applied, including in the largest oval a rose ground and a decorative ground with ladders in shaped stitch. The top side of the strip is finished straight. The very faintly scalloped underside is finished with picots.
