Strip of needle lace with a horizontal branch with three flowers amongst mosses

Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Alençon lace. Beneath a scatter pattern of three rows of rosettes, the repeating pattern consists of a horizontal flower branch. The successive branches are directed to the left and each bear three flowers, some small leaves, and one larger drop-shaped leaf. The largest of the three flowers, alternating with the drop-shaped leaf, form the scalloped edge along the lower side of the strip. The two smaller flowers are on the other side of the branch and protrude between the rosettes in the bottom row. The motifs are constructed from buttonhole stitches and are accentuated by relief contours. Decorative grounds are applied in the flowers and in the drop-shaped leaf. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, an Alençon ground. The upper side of the strip is finished straight with a bobbin band.
